Welcome everyone,

I would like to share how delighted I am to have been appointed as Head for this year at Alderman Cogan’s CE Primary Academy. It is a real privilege to have this role.   I am very excited to join and lead the school in its journey to excellence.  Despite the National Lockdown I have been able to welcome some children back to school this term and I look forward to welcoming more children back when we fully reopen.

It is clear to see that Alderman Cogan is a happy and vibrant school that has high ambitions for all of our pupils. I feel privileged to lead a team of professional, talented and committed staff who provide well-planned and well-organised lessons and activities. Wide ranges of curriculum enrichment activities are provided to enhance children’s learning. We have a supportive and hard working group of governors who are highly skilled in different areas. Governors and staff work together to provide our children with the very best learning opportunities.

We encourage all our pupils to be responsible for their learning, to grow in confidence and become independent. Our aim is for your children to become independent life-long learners who are aspirational and positive about their future lives.

Our school Christian values and ethos underpin all that we do at Alderman Cogan’s CE  Primary Academy. Children have the opportunity to reflect on each value and to develop an understanding of that value in action and how they behave. We are proud to be a Church School reflecting Christian values in the way we interact with each other and within the community.  At Alderman Cogan we are also proud to be part of the York Diocesan Board of Education.

At the school’s last Ofsted Inspection in 2022 the school was judged to be overall Good. In July 2015 the Siams inspection judged the school to be an Outstanding church school. The Inspector found that the school has a ‘’The nurturing and inclusive environment in this welcoming and worshipping community is supportive of all, regardless of faith background.  Strong leadership and good governance is rooted in the mutual and substantial partnership between church and school.

Our staff, coupled with supportive parents and governors, contribute greatly to the success of our school. We all work together with a common goal, to ensure that our children are happy and successful in their primary years.

I look forward to continuing to work in partnership with parents and families.
