Cogan Scholars – Promoting Passion within Home Learning
Home learning has naturally taken a dip post-COVID. Feedback from our Parents Evenings suggest that parents/carers in general are finding it increasingly difficult to engage children with home learning. There are many reasons for this, such as: commitments with external clubs/ organisations, tiredness from the school day, a busy working schedule for the parents, or children finding homework uninspiring/ engaging.
This is where Cogan Scholars comes in!
We want to promote scholarship, independent research, note-taking and build good habits towards learning. Regardless of a child’s future path, being a good ‘learner’ is key to thrive in the wider world. Cogan Scholars is an optional way for children to engage with home learning in a field that they are passionate about. The process is easy:
- Children inform their class teacher of their intention to study for a scholar award and select the subject they want to study.
- The teacher provides the pupil with the resource pack (or you can download below), then the pupil then studies this at home. Please note: The questions in the exam will solely cover what is in the research pack.
- Once children have completed the learning, they ask their class teacher to book their exam.
- Children will sit the exam out of class. They can bring in their notes during the research phase but not the original learning booklet.
- Children will be notified of their outcome: If they pass, they will be invited to the next available graduation day. If not, they will have the opportunity to resit the exam once per half term.
