Starting School – Admission into Foundation Stage 2

The school has an admission limit of 60 pupils to Foundation Stage 2. Applications for admission must be made to the Local Authority.  The online application process opens annually from October until January.

The school will admit all children with a statement of special educational needs or an Education, Health and Care plan (EHCP) in which the school is named.

Where, after the admission of children with statements of special educational needs or EHCPs naming the school, there are more applications for admission than places remaining available within the admission number, the Governing Body’s Admission Committee has agreed a strict criteria detailed in the Admissions Policy.

At Alderman Cogan’s we work with parents to ensure that the transition from pre-school to school runs as smoothly as possible.  We invite the parents/carers and children to our transition events.  Also we invite nurseries and pre-schools to visit our school and our staff can visit you at home to discuss your child on a more personal basis.

Changes to September 2021 Admission Arrangements

The Local Governing Body has resolved to propose that a variation be made to the schools admissions arrangements for admission to reception in September 2021, in respect of the oversubscription criteria relating to attendance at worship.

The variation requested is that: “In the event that during the period specified for attendance at worship at the church or, in relation to those of other faiths, relevant place of worship, has been closed for public worship and has not provided alternative premises for that worship, the requirements of these (admissions) arrangements in relation to attendance will only apply to the period when the church, or in relation to those of other faiths, relevant place of worship, or alternative premises have been available for public worship.”

This request is made in order that parents seeking admission to the school can readily determine what the admissions oversubscription criteria are and how they may be met, and thereby enable enable the school to deal lawfully, fairly and transparently with admissions matters in the exceptional circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic.

If any parents or carers wish to make a comment about this please direct it to Claire Graham-Brown, Deputy Diocesan Director of Education at
